Overview of the Park

Kibale National Park prevails in western Uganda, approximately 348 kilometers (a 5-hour journey) from Kampala. Additionally, it is 26 kilometers southeast of Fort Portal., one of Uganda’s most attractive towns to visit.

The 795 km2 forest park in Uganda indeed features diverse tropical forest tracts, primarily located on the high Fort Portal plateau in the park’s midst and northern areas.

The park, near Ndali Kasenda crater, offers easy access to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains & Semuliki National Parks, and Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve, with Kibale as its highest point.

One of Africa’s highest diversity and concentrations of primates can be found in Kibale National Forest. The red colobus monkey, the uncommon L’Hoest’s monkey, and numerous endangered chimpanzees all call this region home.

Along with more than 325 bird species, Four wild felids, numerous primate species, at least 60 additional animal species, and more than 250 tree species, the park is also home to over 325 bird species. Moist evergreen and semi-deciduous forest makes up the majority of the environment of Kibale.

Primates of Kibale

Kibale National Park surely houses 13 species of primates, including Uganda Mangabey, Ugandan Red Colobus, and L’Hoest’s Monkey, among other well-studied habituated colonies of Common Chimpanzees.

The park features primates like blue monkeys and black colobus, as well as elephants that move between it and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Wildlife of Kibale

Kibale National Park is indeed home to buffalo, warthogs, bushpigs, red and blue duikers, and other terrestrial species. Leopards, bushpigs, three species of duiker, and two species of otter are among the carnivores that live there. Lions also occasionally go to the park.

Bird watching in the Park

Kibale National Park surely boasts a diverse bird population, featuring 325 species including African Grey Parrot, African Long-tailed Cuckoo, Western Green Tinkerbird, and pittas, with the ground thrush being the only species found.

How to access this Park?

To construct a 180 km wildlife corridor between Ishasha, the isolated southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Sebitoli, in the north of Kibale National Park, Kibale National Park is bordered to the south by Queen Elizabeth National Park.
